Tobacco Road Golf Club

SANFORD — Having had so much fun on the first hole of the Dream 18, we had to pay another visit to Sanford's Tobacco Road, where Jeff Gravley was "fortunate" to score a historical birdie last week.

Tobacco Road's par 3, 14th hole has a figure-8 green to navigate. If you look back from green to tee, you will see plenty of tee boxes to choose from

"We do have about six different tee boxes, anywhere from a sand wedge all the way back to a 3-iron and it can even be a driver if the wind is in your face," explains assistant pro Jeff Snider.

Snider and Gravley decide to tee off from about 160 yards from the hole.

"[The] three options to land here are waste area which is sand, in the water, or -- if you hit a good shot -- on the green," explains Snider, who takes care of hitting the green.

Meanwhile, Gravley shows his lack of accuracy and love for fishing.

"If we send SCUBA divers down there we'd probably pull [out] a couple of thousand balls, even though we've only been open since November," remarks Snider.

The group waits patiently as Gravley drops and chips -- not bad. But he still has some ground to cover for bogey.

It's back to double-bogey reality. Snider rolls it close enough for par.

Diverse best describes the par 3, 14th as well as the entire course. Designer Mike Strantz calls Tobacco Road "the best project he's worked on." Now we understand see why. Reporter:Jeff Gravley
