RALEIGH — February 22, 1996 - 9:59 a.m. EST
Listen to passengers describe the emergency landing:
A USAir Fokker 100 jet that lost a left inside wheel on takeoff Thursday morning at Raleigh-Durham International landed safely in Charlotte.
Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority spokeswoman Teresa Damiano says Flight 1543 had 66 people on board. After determining that four other wheels were working, a decision was made to have the jet fly on to its next destination -- Charlotte.
Emergency crews were called out to Charlotte-Douglas, but weren't needed.
Damiano says an airport crew picked up the wheel and is turning the situation over to USAir maintenance
