e-mail print friendly

February 16, 1996 - 12:47 p.m EST

It was a close call Thursday night in Johnston County when a propane tanker overturned, but disaster was averted.

It happened on Interstate 40 near the Johnston-Sampson County line, when the truck left the road and flipped. Investigators don't yet know why the accident happened.

The tanker was carrying about 9,000 gallons of liquid propane, and there was concern it might leak. Several nearby homes were evacuated while the gas was pumped into another tanker.

No leak occurred, and no one was injured
