RALEIGH — February 17, 1996 - 11:17 a.m. EST
The man arrested by Raleigh police in connection with a fire in a Raleigh public housing complex is the boyfriend of the victims' mother.
Jermaine Antoine Smith, 23, of Raleigh, is charged with setting the fire that ripped through Angela Wilder's Heritage Park apartment early this month, killing her nine, six and three-year-old daughters. Their four-year old brother was seriously injured and remains in pediatric intensive care at North Carolina Memorial Hospital.
Neighbors say they had no idea there was trouble between Wilder and Smith.
Smith is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree arson.
Police arrested him at about 3 p.m. Friday while he was at work at a car dealership
