Golfers to Tee Off at Pinehurst For 2005 U.S. Open

Posted Updated

PINEHURST — Pinehurst is ready for round two of the U.S. Open.

TheUSGAannounced it is bringing the tournament back to Pinehurst No. 2 in 2005.

Normally, the tournament does not return to the same golf course for eight to ten years, but the success of the 1999 Open surely came into play.

Last June's tournament brought 200,000 visitors and $160 million to the state.

"A shorter gap in between Opens gives us the benefit of remembering of what was done well and what we can do even better," says Caleb Miles, director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Moore County site beat out the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles and the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
