FAYETTEVILLE — January 29, 1996 - 10:50 a.m. EST
A routine traffic stop for a registration violation turned into a police chase Sunday night in Fayetteville.
When the driver of a Yugo tried to outrun an officer, the Yugo crashed into another car, which then collided with a third car. All five people inside the Yugo were taken to a local hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.
The drivers of the other two cars were treated and released.
Police said they found a handgun and a sawed-off shotgun inside the Yugo
