Soldier Found Shot To Death in Burning Car

FAYETTEVILLE — January 25, 1996 - 2:50 p.m. EST

Police are investigating the murder of a Fort Bragg soldier found dead inside a burning car Wednesday night.

Police and firefighters were originally called to a vehicle fire in a private driveway off Morganton Road.

After dousing the flames, they discovered Specialist Robert Germaine Jones dead in the back seat of the car.

He had been shot several times in the head.

Police have recovered a gun and other evidence. The fire was put out before it could destroy crucial evidence, they said
