Carolina National may be a new addition to your golfing guide book, but you probably have heard of its co-designer, Fred Couples. He even custom made some of the holes to fit his game, like the par 4 16th.
"On this hole, definitely, we'll see it a little bit on the second shot," says course pro Rick Slone. "You need to fade it, if that pins stuck right, you want to stay left off the tee with the water on the right. At the time he built this he was playing a fade, so you can definitely see it here."
Since very few hit as well as Couples, there are plenty of obstacles off the 16th tee; water on the right, a big oak tree lurking left, and the guest tee baller, Sky5 pilot Steve Wiley, nailed the other hazard that is often visited - a house. Actually, a lot of people have hit the house and some golfer have even signed it.
Both Slone and Jeff were sitting fine in the fairway with just 110 left to navigate. Well Jeff could not match Rick's accuracy, but he will never complain about hitting a green in regulation.
Rick's birdie putt is just a couple of inches to the right, but par is a good score on the number 2 handicap hole. Jeff followed suit and rolled in a par putt as well.
with five sets of tee boxes, you can play the 16th hole from 267 to 443 yards, and the $48-$80 cost for the coastal course is reasonable too. Reporter:Jeff Gravley
