"When you're a brand-new head coach everything's different, everything's new. ... [All] decisions that you're making are things that you've never had to do before," Franks said.
Franks brings his wide-open offense to his alma mater, Duke, fromFlorida-- a system he learned under Steve Spurrier. Right now, Franks is busy giving his Blue Devils an offensive crash course.
"I was very pleased with what they did in spring practice, they absorbed a lot of it, but they've played in a lot of different systems lately," Franks said. "They are going to need a lot of repetitions."
The Devils do have one thing going for them, and that is experience. They have19 startersreturning from last year, more than any other ACC school.
"We're going to go out there and see how good this team can be," Franks said. "You never know from year to year, but I know this team has a chance to be very successful."
Will his players learn the new system quickly? Will Duke have more wins? Those questions will be answered in the next few months.
One thing that we do know is that the Blue Devils will be more flashy and a lot more fun in 1999.
