Wake School Leaders Discuss Search For New Superintendent

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County public school system leaders are narrowing the search for a new superintendent.

On Tuesday, members of the Board of Education held a open meeting and discussed what they are looking for in a candidate to replace outgoing superintendent Bill McNeal, including qualities and experience.

Board members went in closed session to receive any applications made from internal candidates.

Some school board members have mentioned that they want to look outside the school system and education environment for McNeal's replacement.

McNeal, who began his career as a social studies teacher in the school system in 1974, will retire from his post June 30.
