State's Chasity Melvin Looking to Score in ABL

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — One area player not to choose the direction of the WNBA is former NC State star Chasity Melvin.

While many of the top women college basketball players choose the high exposure of the WNBA, Former NC State star Chasity Melvin headed down a different path.

"The WNBA, that was probably the main factor why I wanted to go there," Melvin says. "Because of the exposure, and everyone wanted to see me play on television. But, the ABL provided a lot more opportunities."

Those are opportunities such as playing with some of the elite women athletes in the world.

"I was concerned about being a great player, and there are a lot of great players in the ABL, people who I look up to, and I have watched play in NCAA tournaments," explains Melvin. "I'm looking forward to learning for them and playing against them and see where I stand."

As for now, Melvin stands on a left knee needing some rehabilitation. She had a routine scope, but expects to be ready when the ABL kicks off in November.
