Wojo Ignites Basketball Camp

Posted Updated

BUIES CREEK — Its that time of year again, the week to send the kids off to camp. Some future basketball players at one of the oldest camps will get a surprise - the former Duke spark plug Steve Wojciechowski.

The young players at Cambell University flocked to the gritty player simply known as Wojo for an autograph. They admire the heights he scaled despite the limited abilities afforded him.

His Duke career is over, but his dream to play on is not. Wojo is the first to admit that the NBA is a long shot, but to not at least give it a shot would be very un-Wojo-like.

"I think it is a dream for everyone," Wojciechowski said. "I'm not sure how it will all pan out, but I'm going to give it a shot and see how it goes."

Wojo said that he has a handful of other opportunities to look at including coaching, and if indeed his playing days are over then that is acceptable to him.

"I had a phenomenal career, and I am very fulfilled from my career there," Wojciechowski said. "I had a great four years and made a lot of great relationships and did a lot of great things that no one will be able to take away from me. If I never play again then that will be something different that I will have to deal with, but I can always look back on my Duke career and smile."

He may have limited skills and ability, but hustle and a heart of a champion can make up for plenty.
