Both State, NC Make Post-Season Field

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — North Carolina was a bit anxious Monday as the Tar Heels waited to see if their season will continue. When the Atlantic One Regional came calling, UNC had an invite. Some tough early season games certainly helped.

"You can play a tough schedule, tough teams on the road," says UNC Coach Mike Roberts, "So that gives you a better feeling that you've done that than if you had stayed home and played teams locally. That helps. It can at times wear on you. I have to say last night I was a little sleepless at times."

Many people thought Wake Forest put NC State's post season hopes to sleep when the Deacons shocked everyone by winning the ACC tournament. Needless to say, the Pack is delighted to be heading west.

"We knew the ACC would definitely take four teams," admits NCSU pitcher, Dustin Baker. "It would be a stretch to take five. It's remarkable that they took six out of nine teams in the league. It just says a lot about our league.

The ACC had the nation's highest power ranking, one reason the Heels and pack are still alive.
