Cary Woman Believes Her Cancer Was Healed by the Power of Faith

Posted Updated

CARY — This is a true story. A woman from Cary was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. At one point, doctors gave her one week to live. But Ann Dismuke is perfectly healthy now. She says a miracle saved her.

"I always believed in God, but I didn't have a concentration of it because I was just too busy," Ann says. "I certainly didn't expect to have this life-threatening illness. And my doctor comes in one day and says that it was not treatable and curable."

"By this time Ann was really beginning to get very sick," says Dr. Jeff Crane.

"We didn't know exactly what we were going to do," says Ann's husband Gene.

All of Ann's organs were starting to fail -- her nerves, muscle, liver, lungs, kidneys.

Gene remembers the doctor's words. "He said to me, 'If you have any family you should call them, there's a very real possibility that she has less than a week.'"

"A day or two after this liver failure, my next-door neighbor volunteered to come over to the hospital. He was insistent with my husband to come and say a prayer for me ... I don't think he would normally just do that unless he was being pulled," Ann says.

That moment changed everything.

Ann remembers. "He put his hands on my shoulders and said a very powerful prayer ... I was very alert for that moment, I don't know why, but I was very alert. It was powerful, I felt a very warm feeling come over my body."

"The air was very intense, it was very intense," Gene says.

"She got up and got in her chair which was a little unusual, I mean, because she hadn't been out of bed. And sure enough every day, consistently, the stats continued to improve. Without fail, every day they improved," he says.

"It was a dramatic turnaround, and we just, it was hard to believe," Crane says.

And hard to explain.

"They finally admitted at my bedside that it must have been divine intervention, because they did not have a medical reason why I was there," Ann says.

Ann had her six-month checkup earlier this week, and doctors found no leukemia cells at all.

"God has given me a second chance here," Ann says. "I have a purpose now to help others and spread the word of God."

"There's always hope," Ann's doctor says. "You can never ever take away the power of hope."
