The incredibly long drivers are still there, as are the huge galleries that watch his every move. But there's something missing in John Daly's life. Gone is the alcohol demon that has plagued Long John since he took the tour by storm seven years ago.
"It's a battle," Daly admits. "It's definitely a battle. Like I said, I surrounded myself with really good people. Some of the them had the same problems that I had gone through. So, it makes it easier."
Daly has gotten off to a solid start this season. He's 26th on the money list with $368,000 and first in driving distance-- no shock there. But Daly is a bit surprised by just how well he's played so far.
"I wasn't planning on having such a great year at the start this year because I had so many changes going on in my life right now," says Daly. "Hopefully, in the next two or three years, I can rebuild my game. It's coming around real good now. Hopefully, it will only get better."
When John Daly speaks of getting better, he's not only talking about tee to green, but rather life away from the game as well.
