Lady Blue Devils Prepare for Tourney Time

print friendly

The ACC Women's Tournament begins Thursday in Charlotte with the play-in game. The surprisingly top-seeded Duke Blue Devils start their play on Friday. It's been a great year for the Duke women.

Clean the slate. It's back to work for the Duke women's basketball team. The Devils won the ACC regular season title on Sunday. That means little now.

"They had yesterday off," says Coach Gail Goestenkors. "I told them they had one day to enjoy it. Then we had to get back to business and get our feet back on the ground."

Right now, the black and blue foot of center, Payton Black, has the attention of the Devils. The coaching staff hopes Black will be up for tournament play. With or without Black, the target of top seed is plastered on Duke's back, and along with it a little pressure.

Duke guard Hilary Howard says the team tends to thrive under pressure. She hopes the Blue Devils will continue to do well.

Duke has never entered the tournament in the top spot, but then again, who thought they would win the regular season?
