Monday Not a Holiday for Everyone

e-mail print friendly

It is a certainty that Monday is Presidents' Day, a federal holiday. Federal offices, including post offices, will be closed. After that, however, it's a patchwork across the Triangle of which businesses, recreation sites and government offices will be open.

If you are in doubt, you might want to call ahead lest you make a special trip only to find the doors closed.

For instance, museums will be open in Durham and Johnston counties (but the Benson Museum will be closed). Museums in Orange and Wake will be closed, although the NC Museum of Natural Science will be open.

Durham kids are due in school Monday, but those in Johnston, Orange and Wake will have the day off. Wake's teachers have a workday.

Most banks will be closed, but a few will be open in Durham County.

Bus service, garbage pickup and landfills are expected to operate on normal schedules.

Parks will be closed in Johnston County, open in Wake, Durham and Orange.

If you want to take out a library book, you are fine in Durham, Johnston and Orange Counties. Wake, however, is taking the day as a staff development day.

City, county and state offices will be open.

ABC stores will be open in all four counties.
