The latestMason-Dixon poll numbersshow Tennyson with a 10 percent point lead.
The poll, conducted for WRAL-TV andThe News and Observer, shows Tennyson with support of 46 percent of likely voters and McKissick with 36 percent. Eighteen percent of likely voters are still undecided.
There is a clear split along racial lines.
Tennyson is the choice with two-thirds of whites; McKissick a favorite of more than 70 percent of African Americans.
The most important issues in the race for Durham mayor are fighting crime, taxes, government spending and character.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percent. The poll, which was conducted last Thursday and Friday, included 408 likely voters.
