RALEIGH, N.C. — A suspect has been arrested in a hit-and-run collision with a Raleigh motorcycle officer.
According to police, 27-year-old Stanley Raynard Townsend, of Raleigh, was arrested Friday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, vandalism and possession of stolen property
Officer B.W. Lampe said he tried to pull over Townsend, who was allegedly driving a stolen Lexus, on Jan. 17 on East Millbrook when Townsend tried to flee the scene. Townsend allegedly backed up into Lampe's motorcycle, and Lampe jumped away without serious injury.
The car was found later that day on Broyhill Circle, where it had been set on fire.
Townsend was being held Friday night in the Wake County Jail on $76,000 bond.
