RALEIGH — A bill in the General Assembly could allow Harnett and Cumberland counties to increase their sales tax by 1 percent.
The counties would use the tax revenue for school construction and renovations. If the bill passes, voters in the counties would have to approve the increase in a referendum.
County leaders say they need the money because many military families do not pay property tax.
