Eight Hurt in Johnston County Accident

The Highway Patrol says an SUV ran a stop sign near the community of Meadow, slamming into another SUV. The accident sent eight people to area hospitals.

Investigators say the crash occurred just after noon Sunday at the intersection of Godwin Lake Road and Reedy Prong Church Road. The impact sent both vehicles into an open field along one side of the road.

They say a black 1988 Isuzu Trooper with seven passengers ran a stop sign. It hit a 1997 Oldsmobile Bravada, driven by Freddie Lee Beasley, 58, of Benson. She had been wearing a seatbelt and the airbag deployed.

Beasley is in serious condition at Duke University Medical Center. Five people in the Isuzu were flown to hospitals. Their conditions as of 10 a.m. Tuesday:GOOD CONDITION:

  • Yesenia Guerrero, 31, of Selma
  • Aracely Guerrero Lopez, 36, of Selma
  • Victor Martinez Arias, 29, of Selma SERIOUS CONDITION:
  • Dennis Rodolfo Guerrero, 32, of Selma FAIR CONDITION:
  • Ambar Martinez, 3, of Selma

    Two people were discharged from the hospital: Celeste Martinez, 4, and Kelvin Ortega, 6, both of Selma. No charges have been filed as the investigation begins.
