LILLINGTON — A high-speed chase led to two passenger deaths early Sunday morning, and now the car's driver faces second-degree murder charges.
Police say the chase began after Peter Williams, of Erwin, almost hit a Lillington police car head on.
State troopers say that when a Lillington police officer tried to pull over the car, the driver took off.
About a mile outside Lillington, on old U.S. 421, Williams lost control, ran off the road, and hit a tree.
Two passengers in the car, Jerome Atkinson and Jonathan Gibson, both 19 and both from Dunn, were instantly killed.
