North Hills Mall Has a Future

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — North Hills Mall is no longer shopping for a new owner.

A local company, Kane Realty and Cherokee Investment Fund, has completed the purchase of the mall and plans to revitalize it, though no firm ideas have been set. They say they plan to make North Hills Mall a mix of retail, commercial and residential properties.

The mall was built in 1963 as a strip shopping center with 18 stores. In 1968, it became the first shopping complex in the region to be enclosed.

North Hills Mall has not had a local owner for more than 20 years. It houses more than 70 shops, with J.C. Penny, Dillard's and The Gap as the mall's largest tenants.
