CARY — Each year, theUnited States Olympic Committeetakes time to honor its top coaches. This year, a Cary woman is among the elite group.
Alisa Wright Colopy trains kids to compete in youth triathlon events. The USOC selected her as its 2000 Developmental Coach of the Year.
Colopy's goal is to launch youth into lifelong, healthy behavior through athletics.
"It's been documented by the CDC that the youth in North Carolina are not as physically fit as other states in the nation. So the idea I might be making an impact on the physical fitness level of our community means a lot to me," she says.
Colopy is one of 97 head coaches that the USOC considers the best in the world. She was recognized this weekend in New York City.
