GRANVILLE COUNTY — The search is over for a Granville County teacher who has been missing since New Year's Eve.
After a week of searching, Scott Cinnamon's body was found in a wooded area about a half-mile from his home. Police are not sure how he died.
"We do not suspect foul play just from the preliminary [report]," says Granville County Sheriff David Smith. However, his body has been sent to Chapel Hill for an autopsy so we'll be waiting for results from the [medical examiner] office there."
Cinnamon, a biology teacher and assistant football coach for the school, had a reputation of being strict on the field and friendly in the halls. Charlie Pollock played football last year for the departed coach.
"He was friendly as all get-out. He'll talk to you, kid around with you, anything," he says. "It made my heart sink. We lost a good man."
Counseling will be available Thursday for students and staff.
