After Lowe's decided to back out of a plan to build a store near the new mall, the owners of the land decided to revive its Renaissance Center proposal.
City planners say they are pleased the office-retail-restaurant complex is back for reconsideration.
"We thought we were creating a really interesting kind of main street concept with the original proposal of renaissance to see that go away was kind of, from a personal standpoint, a setback for us," says Norman Standerfer, director of the city's planning department. "I think what they've got now will be a interesting project."
Some neighbors living near Southpoint mall say they are concerned about possible environmental and traffic problems related to the project. The plans will be reviewed by the city over the next couple of months.
