Durham Teen Charged in Pipe Bomb Possession

Posted Updated

DURHAM — A 15-year-old Durham boy has been charged with putting a pipe bomb under an ambulance. The device was discovered before it did any damage.

Police say the bomb had been placed under the ambulance last week when emergency crews responded to a call on the same block where the suspect lives.

Durham police say the teen turned himself in on Friday.

He is charged with manufacturing and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

A medic found the device, which was made from a cereal box and was filled with nails, shotgun shells, gunpowder and firecrackers.
