Holiday Spirit Shines From the State Capitol

RALEIGH — Are you having a tough time getting into the Christmas spirit? If so,the statemay have the solution to get you "turned on" to the holiday season.

It has been so warm lately that it just has not felt like Christmas. However, the lighting of the tree at the state capitol Tuesday night put many people in the Christmas spirit.

The children's trees were lit first, and then the switch was thrown for the main tree.

The Milbrook High School Madrigal Singers entertained the audience until the lighting.

"I enjoyed the choir and the bands. I'm glad the kids can hear that kind of music," said spectator Leigh Kimble.

Luminaries now guide visitors to the state government complex where people can tour the buildings and museums.

The Festival of Lights is also a time for giving. TheU.S. Marine Corpshas its Toys for Tots collection site, and WRAL will be collectingCoats for the Children.
