FT. BRAGG, N.C. — On Thursday at Fort Bragg, an awards ceremony was held for soldiers who served in Iraq.
Troops from the 18th Airborne Corps recently returned from combat operations. Their commander honored them for their service in the war on terrorism.
In all, some 500 awards were presented to the soldiers. The soldiers who lived, worked, and fought in Iraq, were mostly modest about receiving their awards.
"It's an honor to get my award. The award is something to be proud of, but it is a piece of paper, and our service over there is what we're really proud of," said Capt. Ashley Cole.
The 18th Airborne corps led combat operations in Iraq and was instrumental in setting the conditions for the Iraqi people to set up a democratically elected government.
