Tap Water Safe Again in Halifax, Northampton Counties

Posted Updated

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Health officials say it is now safe for about 50,000 people in north and west Halifax County and parts of Northampton County to drink water from the tap.

Officials issued a water warning after construction crews widening a road accidentally broke a water main Friday.

The main was repaired, but the water pressure had dropped so low that officials feared contaminants may have been absorbed into the system.

Officials urged residents to drink and cook with tap water as little as possible.

Tests completed Sunday show the water is now safe.
