— Vance County authorities were on the hunt Sunday for an inmate who escaped from jail with two others.

Reuben Cooper, Kyle Shearin and Aaron Harris escaped by getting onto the roof of the building and jumping over the barbed wires about 1:30 p.m., said Vance County Sheriff Peter White.

Shearin and Harris were recaptured by authorities a couple of hours after the escape. Cooper is still on the loose, White said.

The inmates were being held on charges ranging from drug possession to possession of a firearm by a felon and communicating threats.

Anybody good at broad jumping can jump from the roof. The roof and air conditioners are built up right to the fences and concentration wire. The fences aren't tall enough. You can jump from roof over fence at several locations. I left that town 5 years ago and it's been like fresh air every sense. The town has a few good things going for it but it's a depressing town.

weepyeyes007 wral should not delete anything that you said and people should not report abuse. At least you are giving the information. Maybe if the reporters were doing their job we wouldnt have to go fishing around for the information!!

How did the guys get access to the roof? Why weren't they in a secure area (cell block, or own cell)? Have they been moved to the safe-keepers area at either Polk Youth Center or Central Prison to await trial? Come on, WRAL reporters do your jobs!
