DURHAM — Durham's tobacco past was on parade Saturday with a glimpse into its future.

History buffs took in the Historic Tobacco Heritage tour. The annual trek back in time featured nine stops along tobacco row.

The event focused on the old tobacco warehouses, some of which are being restored. Tour organizers say there is financial and historic value in preserving Durham's tobacco past.

"Obviously, it's a dying industry and with revitalization of the buildings, the timing seems to be perfect to focus our annual tour on Durham's tobacco heritage," says tour organizer John Compton.

There are four revitalization projects currently underway for the tobacco district.
