North Hills Plaza Faces Major Facelift

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Plans are in the works for a major expansion and facelift to the North Hills Plaza, a large strip center next to the North Hills Mall.

The owner wants to take it upscale, but neighbors worry about traffic and the loss of a tree buffer, but they think the owner has good intentions.

"His past history has shown that he has worked with the subdivisions and the residences in other endeavors, so we hope that positive attitude will continue with us," says homeowner John Ayers.

John Kane, developer for the project, says neighboring homeowners will love his plan. The overhaul includes plans for a pair of six- to ten-story office towers, retail and possibly even residential space.

"A lot of it will be brand new, and really what you will see there once we are through with this product will be completely different," Kane says. "You will not see a resemblance of what is there."

The owner of the property has already met with neighbors several times. The developer and owner hope to present a plan to the city council this summer.
