DURHAM — A Durham shelter opened its doors Saturday to people who cannot afford an elaborate Easter feast.

The Durham Rescue Mission provided an Easter picnic for local families. Easter baskets, face-painting and balloon sculptures were all available for the kids.

Organizers say it is tough for the families to afford a holiday meal.

"There's so many people that when they work all week, they have nothing left over after they pay the rent and lights," says Ernie Mills of Durham Rescue Mission. "There's not a whole lot left over for food."

This is the second year the Rescue Mission has hosted an Easter picnic. It is made possible by local donations. -->
