RALEIGH — After searching a four-county area for more than 24 hours, Sheriff's deputies finally caught up with a man they say killed his mother and injured his sister. Charles Renfrow was taken into custody around 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell says he received a call from Renfrow's brother and sister about 3:15 after the suspect arrived at his sister's home outside of Zebulon, knocked on the door and asked to enter.

Authorities have been searching for Renfrow since Tuesday night, when he allegedly killed his mother Eula Renfrow after she arrived home from church. Renfrow is also accused of shooting his sister, Gail Shropshire, who is in good condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Renfrow was taken into custody by both Wake and Johnston County Sheriff's deputies.

He is awaiting first degree murder and attempted murder charges in the Johnston County jail.

This is not Renfrow's first brush with the law. He has been charged in the past with assaulting a female, communicating threats, and carrying a concealed weapon. Renfrow has also pleaded guilty in the past to assault with a deadly weapon.
