CHAPEL HILL — A Chapel Hill shelter is closed on weekends, but the homeless will not go hungry because of it.
A group called Community Cuisine gave out bag lunches on Franklin Street on Saturday. The Interfaith Community Shelter had to close its kitchen on weekends. The group stepped in to help many of the homeless people the shelter used to feed.
"Some are residents of the shelter, but a lot of them are not," says Michael Ullman of Community Cuisine. "A lot are people who are just working in the area who are low-income, so I guess we just wanted to fill that need."
Community Cuisine hopes to help more people once word gets out.
