SMITHFIELD — A bicyclist is dead after being hit by a tractor trailer Sunday night.
It happened along Highway 701, in front of the Holiday Travel Park in Johnston County.
Troopers identified the victim as Gene Beaulieu
The highway patrol says Beaulieu was riding his bike on the dark highway around 8:45 p.m. He was pronounced dead at scene.
The truck driver told troopers he didn't see the man.
Highway patrol officers say no charges will be filed.
