LOS ANGELES — "American Beauty" was named best picture at the 72nd annual Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles Sunday evening.

Kevin Spacey took home the best actor award for his role in "American Beauty." Hilary Swank was named best actress for her performance in "Boys Don't Cry."

Michael Caine and Angelina Jolie won Oscars for their supporting roles in "The Cider House Rules" and "Girl, Interrupted."
