US Airways Strike Deadline Looms Over RDU International

RALEIGH-DURHAM INTERNATIONAL — IfUS Airwaysflight attendants go on strike at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, what kind of an impact will it have on travelers atRaleigh-Durham International Airport?

US Airways is the second largest carrier at the airport. If a strike occurs, it will ground US Airways and Metrojet flights. US Airways Express will still fly.

Passengers boarded planes Friday morning not knowing whether they would have a flight waiting for them for the return home. Many of them say they have already made alternative plans.

Several flight attendants were involved in a demonstration Friday night in front of the state capitol in hopes of a resolution.

Robin Harrison, one of the flight attendants at the demonstration, says the group is hoping to gain a fair contract with the airline.

"It affects our careers, our future, our retirement and our families," Harrison says. "Tonight, we are all together in solidarity to show our support in the final hours of negotiations."

Midway Airlineshas announced it will honor ticketed US Airways customers. E-tickets will not be honored.

Other major airlines andAmtraksay they will also help accommodate US Airways passengers if they are stranded over the weekend.
