The North Carolina Tar Heels are celebrating a NCAA South Regional basketball title and a trip to Indianapolis.

Only diehard fans thought the Tar Heels would make it to the Final Four, and Sunday, their cheers were heard up and down Franklin Street.

After a season of disappointments, the NCAA Tournament has been pure Carolina.

Bars and restaurants were standing room only with crowds spilling outside to watch the game. The suspense seemed too much for some, but most could not keep their eyes off the big screens as the Tar Heels battled Tulsa.

"This is probably one of the teams with the most heart that I've seen at Carolina in a long time," says fan Jim Bulbrook.

As the final seconds ticked away, some were unable to watch, while others knew they had a win.

Fans believe the road to the final four begins on Franklin Street. In true Tar Heel tradition, things got heated with an early evening bonfire on Franklin Street.

Later, hundreds of fans crowded the Dean Smith Center to welcome their team home.

Fans interested in tickets to the Final Four in Indianapolis can call the UNC ticket office at919-962-2296or1-800-722-4335. The ticket office opens Monday at 8 a.m.

The Tar Heels will play Florida Saturday, April 1 at 8:17 p.m. If they win that game, they will play in the national championship Monday night.
