Josh Fish is On Fire On and Off the Court

In the classroom he carries a 4.3 grade point average.

"It is pleasant to see today, someone who places an emphasis on academics as well as athletics," says Will Gage, Harnett Central basketball coach.

For all his love of basketball, Fish knows what is more important.

"School is the most important thing to me right now," he said. "My grades are going to be the thing that takes care of me. Basketball may or may not work out, but at least I know that my grades will always be there. It's a secure feeling to know that, and that is why I make sure my grades are good."

Fish learned to play the game of basketball from his dad Don, a former Harnett Central teacher who pasted over two years ago from cancer. Josh says he remembers his dad in so many ways including the game they both loved.

"Everyday we used to go home and play one-on-one and practice shooting jumpers," Fish said. "He is the main reason I'm in the game of basketball now."

It's certain that Josh's dad would be very proud of his son.

"If you can have an average in excess of an A overall, and be a success in athletics by being a three year starter on the varsity level, I think that is about as good as you can get," Gage said.

"I want other people to think of me as a hard working person who is fun to be around, and a joy to be with," Fish said, "And just a good friend."
