Fans Say Weekend Classes Caused Low Turn-Out at Duke Games

Posted Updated

DURHAM — The "crazies of Cameron Indoor Stadium" have been acting a little crazy lately with their no-shows.

But on Saturday they seemed to be back to normal.

Cameron was crammed full of students Saturday when the Blue Devils played St. John's, but at the previous three home games, student attendance was less than 1,000 -- the norm is about 1400.

Students say January's snowstorm forced them to make up classes on the weekend and put them behind on their school work.

"I know alot of people had papers and tests," says Director of Student Tickets Rob Cuthbertson. "It's tough when you go to a top academic school to try and make the commitments to sports as much as we want to, but I think everybodys over that."

Tents have been up near Cameron for the past three weeks and they're nearly finished serving their purpose. They'll be coming down shortly because the Duke-Carolina game is next Saturday.
