RALEIGH — North Carolina's new governor is not wasting any time getting down to the business of running the state.
Gov. Mike Easley was at the State Capitol bright and early Monday morning, meeting with members of his executive management team.
The governor wants to make sure his office runs smoothly so he can begin to work on the state's biggest issue -- the budget.
"The budget is the key right now," says Easley. " We have a bigger shortfall than we've seen in 10 years when there was a recession, and we're going to have to deal with that."
Easley is also working on appointing members of his cabinet.
Monday, he named Bryan Beatty as secretary of Crime Control and Public Safety. Beatty is currently the director of the State Bureau of Investigation.
