A woman and child died in a Friday morning fire just south of Oxford. Five others were injured.

Seven members of a Mexican family lived in the house, which caught fire around 6:30 a.m. in the Belltown area.

Investigators found the body of what they believe is a 7-year-old girl. She was lying face down in her bedroom.

They believe the girl's grandmother died when she ran back inside the house to save the child. Her body was found in a hallway outside the bedroom.

Five others, including three children, are in the hospital. Their injuries range from first- to third-degree burns. A 9-year-old child was flown to the UNC Burn Center in Chapel Hill. The others are at Granville Medical Center in Oxford.

Authorities believe heating appliances may have started the fire.
