Duke Suspends Sorority Under Investigation for Possible Hazing

DURHAM — ADukesorority has been suspended while the university investigates accusations of hazing.

As of Wednesday,Pi Beta Phicannot hold any meetings or have any events. Sorority sisters are accused of forcing freshmen pledges to drink until they got sick and then writing obscenities on the pledges' bodies.

"Some allegations [have been] made against one of our sororities by another student that there may have been some very inappropriate activities going on that after an investigation we could determine rise to the level of hazing," says Sue Wasiolek, assistant vice president of Student Affairs.

While the university investigates, Pi Phi's former national president is coming to Duke Friday from California. She will interview members of the sorority who so far have not talked with the media.
