FAYETTEVILLE — A Fayetteville elementary school was evacuated Tuesday when police stormed a nearby apartment complex.
U.S. marshals were trying to serve a warrant on a fugitive when they heard what they thought was someone loading a shotgun.
Police were called in to surround the apartment while students and faculty at nearbyTeresa C. Berrien Elementary Schoolwere sent home early.
"While they were surveilling it and getting set up and getting ready for entry, the three subjects exited the back of the apartment building and were taken into custody," said Sgt. Mike Todd of the Fayetteville Police Department.
Two of the three men were released, but one man did have an outstanding arrest warrant in Fayetteville. The man federal marshals were looking for was not in the apartment.
