HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — A would-be ATM thief in Hillsborough thought he had a great plan until his get-a-way car let him down.
Authorities say the thief stole a backhoe from a construction site and apparently lifted an automated teller machine into a stolen pickup truck at SunTrust Bank near North Hills Shopping Center on U.S Highway 70 and N.C. Highway 86,
But the load was too heavy and the truck collapsed.
When police arrived at the scene in response to a silent alarm, they found no other evidence.
