Police are searching for Andrew Lawrence Lewis in connection to a murder from last Friday night.(WRAL-TV5 News)

WAKE COUNTY — Deputies are searching for a murder suspect in southern Wake County.

Wake County deputies had a warrant for Andrew Lawrence Lewis on Tuesday night. Lewis is wanted for the murder of Alton Michael Augustine last Friday night.

Authorities went to Lewis' address to arrest him. As they were setting up for surveillance, he got into his car and drove off.

Lewis led police on a car chase on Old Stage Road between Garner and Fuquay-Varina.

Lewis later wrecked his vehicle into the side of a house and fled on foot. Law enforcement officials thought he may have traveled into a house in the neighborhood, but they could not find him.
