RALEIGH — A spokesman forBellSouthsays the problems that sporadically blocked 911 calls to the Emergency Communications Center in Raleigh have been fixed.
Spokesman David Lane said the problem, which kept more than 50,000 customers without proper emergency service for most of Saturday, was fixed around 7:30 p.m.
Before then, people could dial 911, but the database that normally tells dispatchers the name and address of the person calling was not working.
The affected area was from St. Mary's Street south to Varsity Drive and east to Yonkers Road.
The Raleigh Police Department had increased patrols in the area, and extra personnel was also in place at fire stations in neighborhoods affected by the outage.
