RALEIGH — A five-hour standoff in Raleigh's Historic Oakwood neighborhood is over. Raleigh Police say 40-year-old Kenneth Epps surrendered about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say the situation started about 2:30 p.m. when they tried to serve Epps a warrant for felony assault. Wielding a knife, Epps barricaded himself in the home at 508 Oakwood Avenue.
A two-block area area had been cordoned off by police on Oakwood between Bloodworth and Elm Streets.
Police were able to escort an elderly woman from the house soon after the standoff began, and several homes nearby were evacuated.
